Beautify Yourself With Coconut Oil

By now, I’m sure that you’ve heard of the awesome uses coconut oil has, from cooking to homemade soap to diaper cream. It also has some amazing health benefits. Coconut oil has risen in popularity lately due to its versatility and the results people have gotten from using it. It has great uses in skin and hair care that will make you feel beautiful! Unlike many other options, coconut oil doesn’t contain any chemicals, which can be really hard on people with sensitive skin, which has prompted many people to switch to it.

Coconut oil can soften your skin and prevent wrinkles, making it touchably smooth. If you have skin damage, and really, who doesn’t, the oil can aid in repairing it. As we age, we are more and more likely to develop liver spots and blemishes from our time in the sun; regular use of this oil can aid in preventing and lightening them. You can use it as a lotion for this purpose (with all the other benefits of lotion!). Coconut oil also acts as a low-SPF sunscreen, so don’t forget some before heading out for your day.

One of the reasons that coconut oil is so beneficial for your health is due to its antiseptic properties. These properties aid with bacterial and fungal infections. Some examples of things that it helps with includes acne, ringworm, herpes, boils, warts, and athlete’s foot. To help protect your skin, you can use it as a moisturizer, which keeps your skin looking supple and acting as a barrier.

Creating Beautiful Skin With Coconut Oil

  • Apply it to your lips for a natural lip balm
  • Mix it with salt to use as a body scrub (great for that dry skin on your feet and elbows!)
  • Whip it with your favorite shea butter to use as a body balm
  • Use it on a regular basis to get rid of cellulite
  • Apply it to your face nightly to prevent aging

Healthy Scalp, Beautiful Hair

  • Mix a bit of camphor (around ½ tsp) into a jar of coconut oil. Apply nightly to the scalp to             help with dandruff. Lemon juice can be used instead of camphor, but some find this to be               too drying.
  • Rub it directly into the scalp each day to help with hair loss
  • Run a bit through your hair to tame that frizz
  • Use it as a leave-in conditioner for your hair by applying it for a few hours before you                     shower (please note: as this is an oil, you may need to shampoo several times after this)
  • Use it as a base for your natural hair coloring

Purchasing Tips

If you are going to use coconut oil on a regular basis, it’s better to buy it in bulk. This ensures that you always have plenty on hand and it is much more cost-effective. You can find big 54 ounce containers of it, which is what I buy. My favorite place to buy it is Costco. The last time I purchased some, it was the Nutiva brand. I have seen a Kirkland brand on more recent trips, though, which I’ll be checking out when I restock. If any has already tried it, I’d love to hear your thoughts. My friends that don’t have a membership usually buy it from nearby health food stores or online. One of them swears by the Carrington Brand, which has no GMOs.
