Looking Young In The Sun

As things start warming up and with spring turning to summer, I think it’s important to talk about something that I know I’m personally bad at: sunscreen! Now, I mention it in relation to summer, as that is when most people think it’s needed. However, sun can damage your skin during other parts of the year, too, and even when it’s cloudy.

There are two rays that can cause skin issues: UVA and UVB. UVA is the one that can lead to skin aging and damage, while UVB causes sunburns and skin damage. Both can lead to skin cancer. The skin damage in addition to cancer includes wrinkles, discoloration, and sagging skin. Due to this, when you are seeking out the best products for your anti-aging regiment, don’t forget the sunscreen!

When choosing a sunscreen, make sure it’s a broad spectrum variety to protect against both types of rays. Choose one with at least an SPF of 30. Personally, I burn easily, so I look for those with a higher SPF. Those that advertise above 50 SPF, though, are only added a very, very small amount of extra protection. If you’ll be in the water, sweating, etc., grab a water-proof one.

When you’ve found the right sunscreen option for you, make sure you put it on at least 30 minutes before going outside. Also, don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours (my least favorite part!). The worst times to be out in the sun are 10am to 2pm, so limit your time in the sun during these times if possible.

With some precautions and a good sunscreen, we can all look young in the sun!
